Shane’s Circus Tent is Up at the Blue Cross Roller Rink Summerfest Boathouse

Whenever you feel the onset of the Summer doldrums this season, run away to the Shane Circus at the Summerfest Boat House! Inspired by the bright colors, nostalgic treats, and unique whimsy found at the circus and carnival, Shane Confectionery has donned the proverbial grease paint.  All Summer we will be serving fresh popcorns, bags of salted peanuts, saltwater taffy, house-made fudge, Franklin Fountain single scoops & ice cream sandwiches, and cotton candy all in a carousel of flavors.

Cotton Candy from our Electric Candy Machine

Cotton Candy was introduced to a wide American audience at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, under the name of Fairy Floss.
This Summer we are excited to bring you our very own Fairy Floss, at both Shane Confectionery & at the Summerfest Boat House!  Our head confectioner is a variable Titania, spinning mouth-watering wisps of Fairy Floss in Lemon Raspberry, Lavender, Cinnamon, and the house favorite – Mint Chocolate Chip!

MATCHAweb

A Matcha Made in Heaven

Matcha is a form of finely ground green tea leaf, made to blend harmoniously with liquids.  We mix it with fresh milk, white chocolate, and a touch of organic cane sugar to make our Iced White Chocolate Matcha, a perfect springtime concoction for sipping in the sunshine.

Our Lavender Soda Syrup is Blooming and Honeycomb Ice Cream a Buzz

Our Lavender Soda Syrup is back; with its charming color and delightful aroma, it’s pleasing to all the senses!
While the bees are busy making honey, we’re busy making our Honeycomb Ice Cream, made with our own rooftop honey!

We salute our fathers & forefathers this summer

We’ve been reflecting on our naval neighbors, and each month this summer we will highlight a serviceman related to our crew.

While getting the SS Franklin Fountain in ship shape, we hired local artist Otis Gray.  As he painted our ‘ship’, Otis told us about his grandfather Frank Gray.  At 17, Gray lied about his age to get into the US Navy.  When discovered to be underage he was put to work as a ship painter.  Gray served in the Pacific, on the Myassis Dragon from 1943-1945.  He eventually helmed both the Myassis Dragon & the USS LST-241 that deployed Marines onto the beach at Iwo Jima & Guam.

In 1944: A Jeep for three gallons of Ice Cream!

The crew of U.S. submarine took a jeep from a pier at Pearl Harbor, and after using it for a brief period, swapped it to the crew of a destroyer for three gallons of ice cream!

“Such a price for a prized possession shows how much service men like ice cream.  Like the Marine who wrote from his jungle foxhole that he wanted ice cream three times a day every day after the war.”
