We Salute our Fathers and Forefathers this Summer
Wertz Candies was founded in Lebanon, Pennsylvania in 1931 by Nora & William H. Wertz. A decade later, the founders’ son William Wertz went on to serve his country in the Pacific Theatre during World War II as a Navy man while family members kept shop. Today, Wertz is owned and operated by a 3rd generation of Wertz brothers who maintain the rich traditions of hand-made chocolates, caramel corn, and their world-famous Opera Fudge, a Lebanon tradition.

As he waited patiently in long line, he proclaimed “Good Peach Ice Cream is sure hard to find,” and proceeded to order a cup of ours, made from local summer peaches. He was all smiles afterwards with owner Ryan Berley.

Ice Cream? Seabees Can Do!
In WWII sailors in the South Pacific outfitted a 50 gallon teakwood drum with machinery parts from a bulldozer, a generator, and a bomb-wrecked Jeep to make their own ice cream machine! “Why? Because ice cream is a symbol of home and tonic to morale.”
